Do’s & Don’ts When Designing An Advert

Designing adverts can be a fun but also daunting task. Working within the design industry, I am constantly pushed with my ideas and inspirations. Creating the perfect advert to showcase my clients’ services and or product can be stressful. That is why I thought to put together a blog about the do’s and don’ts when designing the perfect advert.

 

DO’S

  • CREATE A TAG LINE OR HEADING TO ENTICE YOUR CUSTOMERS
    Easier said than done. This is a great way of getting your audience to look twice. I always find creating closed-ended questions a great way to help your customers think about why they need your service. i.e. Do you need a great design and price service? Time to repair your boiler? 
  • CREATE A STRONG CALL TO ACTION
    If you haven’t caught their attention with your strapping headline, you’ll be sure to grab their attention with a strong call to action. Call to actions help make your customers feel important by offering them something to get intouch. i.e. 10% discount with this advert or £15 off when calling...
  • KEEP IT SIMPLE
    Less is more especially when designing adverts. You want to find one image that relates back to your chosen tag line, bringing in colour and a sense of feel. An image speaks louder than words.

 

DON’TS

  • LOGO PLACEMENT
    I understand your logo is important when it comes to advertising your business. You want it to be seen and heard… but not big, bold and at the top of your advert.
    Customers state they don’t care what a business is called, just what they are offering. The bottom right hand corner is the perfect place instead. 
  • TEXT
    Images speak louder than words, rather than a slab of text no one reads. Your advert need to be clean with your message getting across fast and effectively. This should only mean a couple of dot points and most importantly your contact information.
  • PIXELATION
    Images can either make or break an advert. It hurts my design soul to see images that are blurred and disfigured, making the advert look unprofessional and hard to follow. This is caused by zooming or blowing up an image that is originally too small for an advert. A big no, no.
